Australia's Round 1 of the 2013 Monster Energy MX Nationals

Round 1 of the 2013 Monster Energy MX Nationals (Australian Motocross Championship) starts off this Sunday (14 April) at MX Central Barleigh Ranch Raceway.

The 2013 Championship series will be conducted over 10 rounds with 2 stops in New South Wales, 1 in South Australia , 3 in Victoria and 4 in Queensland.

MX Central has undergone a complete track rebuild, the new layout will produce very fierce racing with more passing options and bigger jumps to create some great viewing for the public.l

New South Welshman Jay Marmont will be aiming high after losing the championship he had held for 4 years. Last year Marmont bounced back with the Supercross Championship at the end of 2012 and will be looking to reclaim his mantel of champion in Motocross.

Both 2012 MX2 and MXD champions have moved up a class and the MX1 Champion Josh Coppins retired at the end of last season, this leaves the door wide open for the new comers.

The 2013 series is set to be world class with the deepest riders line up in Australian Motocross History.

The premier Monster Energy MX1 (Pro Open class), will see all 5 manufactures run 2 rider teams, plus local team, Craig Anderson ‘s Berry Sweet Lucas Oils Yamaha team and 3 other privateer teams will see great action.

The Motul MX2 and Pirelli MXD classes have exceeded the rider numbers from the 2012 championship with record entries, the opening round will be hotly contested right from qualifying.

The championship this year has returned to the traditional Motocross Grand Prix format of 2 Races, 30 Min + 1 lap.

New to the series this year will be the Go Pro Super Pole, this will play a major role in the Championship, after the first MX1 Qualifying the top 5 riders will be lined back up for 1 super lap to decide the final 5 qualifying grid picks, with the addition of championship points this will be very interesting.
