More rain for last day of pre-season testing
Tuesday 26 March: Monday was the final day of pre-season testing ahead of the 2013 MotoGP™ season.
Frustratingly for the teams and riders, more rain has
fallen at Jerez which is likely to leave a number of uncertainties
heading to Qatar.
Halfway through, following sporadic showers which have characterised
the test since Saturday, Ducati Test Team rider Michele Pirro topped the
timesheets with a 1'47.708 lap time. Repsol Honda Team’s Dani Pedrosa
had a completely different idea and has already flown home, as he is
happy with his bike and has nothing more to learn in the conditions.
The weather has aggravated most over the course of the three days,
although perhaps today more than previously for Yamaha Factory Racing.
After Valentino Rossi topped the session on Sunday, he and world
champion teammate Jorge Lorenzo had hoped to trial a chassis upgrade
today, but full evaluation has not been possible so far.
As only four sets of Wet tyres have been available for the duration of
the three-day test, running has been even more limited than it might
have been otherwise.
There have been no fallers amid the greasy conditions this morning,
although Michael Laverty was forced to park his PBM bike after the rear
brake locked up. Álvaro Bautista, who crashed his GO&FUN Honda
Gresini yesterday, has been unable to ride because of a knee injury.
Only 11 riders have chosen to post lap times thus far.
