Chad Reed confirms Australian Supercross Championship campaign

Reed’s 2013 race machine – the powerful new Honda CRF450R – plus parts and supplies are packaged and set for air freight to the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit which will host the series’ second round alongside the AirAsia Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix on October 26 and 27.

Following this, Reed will race at Toowoomba before heading to his home-town, Newcastle, which will hold the final event on the calendar.

Reed’s Australian campaign will serve him well as the team strives to develop the new Honda race bike in preparation for the Monster Energy AMA Supercross opener in the second week of January.

"I’m really excited to confirm that I’ll be heading home for what will be my first Australian appearance under my own TwoTwo Motorsports banner.

"Taking the Championship to Phillip Island is a big task and a significant move forward for the sport, when I first heard the news I was both surprised but encouraged by the direction.

"We’d originally planned to make a trip home to be spectators at the event and spend time catching up with friends and family but the opportunity to race at such an amazing circuit along with MotoGP was one I couldn’t pass up.

"We saw it as a good chance to race and test the 2013 bike and then felt it would be a significant investment for only a single race so decided to extend it to both Toowoomba and Newcastle.

"It’s a win-win for me – I get to race at home, launch the awesome new 2013 Honda, test and develop the bike against guys I consider world-class competitors, catch up with my friends and family and get to spend some time with the guys in the MotoGP paddock as well.

"I spend a bit of time on social media too and noticed that the Aussie fans were really rallying behind the Championships’ campaign to bring me back to race – it’s hard to find fans as passionate as these guys and I really do value the support and feedback.”

Round 2 of the Championship, Reed’s first race on Australian soil since a victorious one-off appearance in 2010, will be held on Saturday October 27 as part of the AirAsia Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix at Phillip Island.

Entry to the Supercross precinct is open to any ticket holder.

Round 3 will be held at the Toowoomba Showgrounds on Saturday November 10, with the fourth and final round to be held at the Newcastle Showgrounds on Saturday November 17.

Reed will make his return to racing this weekend, lining up to contest the $1m Monster Energy Cup in Las Vegas against some of the sport’s best.
