Champions crowned at AJMX in Coolum

KTM rider Billy Payne scooped up the 50cc Auto spoils, taking his maiden AJMX title with a formidable 101 points. The New South Wales rider topped the final board ahead of Queensland’s Brad West (KTM) and Western Australia’s Jasyn Roney (Cobra).

Sunshine Coast local Jett Lawrence (KTM) took out the 65cc 7-U9 title after a week of standout performances, collecting four of five race wins and 122 points. The young rocket almost came unstuck in today’s final, having trouble at the gate and also taking a spill, but screamed his way back through the field to finish the race in second behind Victorian rider Dominic Walker (KTM). Walker went home with the class silver (100) while New Zealand pilot Regan Turner (KTM) walked away with bronze (92).

Young Queenslander rustler Bailey Malkiewicz (KTM) secured his second Australian Junior Motocross Championship title with gold in the 65cc 9-U11 class. Malkiewicz sealed the win with a 1-1-3 result across three thundering final motos and a concluding score of 66. NSW challengers Rhys Budd (KTM) and Tyler Darby (KTM) finished the week in second and third, with final scores of 57 and 55 points.

Western Australian star and current 65cc World Champion Caleb Grothues (KTM) cleaned up the 65cc 11-U13 years title with a near-perfect 122 points. NSW flier and 65cc World number two Riley Dukes (KTM/SS Racing) picked up second in class with 109, followed by the Northern Territory’s Liam Walsh (KTM) on 87.

Grothues also took the 85cc 9-U12 title with a perfect 1-1-1 result chalked on the board. Callum Norton (GMR Motorex KTM) took his third consecutive second place finish for the week to claim the silver (66 points) while NSW dynamo Riley Dukes swept up bronze despite placing sixth in the final moto.

After a week of intense competition in the 85cc 12-U14 class, Queensland livewire Wilson Todd (Yamaha Junior Racing) collected the Aussie title with a haul of 72 points. Fellow Queensland pilot Mitchell Evans (GMR Motorex KTM) secured the silver medal with a 2-2-1 result and 65 points, pipping local Sunshine Coast rider Hunter Lawrence (KTM Brisbane) to the second podium step by a single point.

Todd’s charge was halted later in the afternoon during the 100-150cc 13-U15 final moto when he came off the bike, losing precious time and his place on the podium. The Aussie title went to Queensland flier Caleb Ward (KTM/JWR) on 72 points, with Dylan Heaton of NSW (KTM) and Jake Pruiti (KTM) of Western Australia reaping second and third with 58 apiece.

Heaton kept the fire burning into the final 85cc 14-U16 moto, taking the race win by more than seventeen seconds and locking in his first AJMX title. Queensland’s Blake Colleton (Kawasaki Australia) edged the silver with 105 points, while NSW rider Elias Dukes (KTM) seized bronze with 101. Dukes’ NSW rival Brock McCleary fell short of the podium by a single point, finishing the Championship on an even 100.

NSW rider Joel Wightman (NSW Yamaha Junior Racing) emerged from the 100-150cc 15 years decider as Australian Champion with 107 points. Queensland duo Richard Evans (KTM Australia) and Dylan Wilson (Brisbane KTM) picked up silver and bronze, with 103 and 89 points respectively.

The 150cc 9-U12 title was picked up by NSW powerhouse Riley Dukes (Honda/SS Racing), who achieved four from five race wins across the week. Queensland flier Mason Rowe (Honda) earned silver with 104 points, and Western Australia’s Regan Duffy nabbed bronze with 95.

Queensland’s Kaleb Barham (Honda) dominated the 150cc 12-U14 moto to take the race win and the Australian title with a neat 100 point Championship result. Silver and bronze was a NSW affair, with Jimmy Griffin (Honda) claiming silver (93) and Dylan Dukes (Honda) taking bronze (92).

New South Wales charger Elias Dukes (Honda) clinched the 150cc 14-U16 title with three of five final moto wins and an unbeatable 109 points. Dukes was joined on the Championship podium by Victoria’s Wayne Stewart (Honda) and Queensland’s Lochie Latimer (Honda), who collected 101 and 95 points respectively. NSW rider Jye Smith (Honda) missed out on the bronze by seven points, despite surging to victory in the final moto.

Queensland’s Jesse Dobson (Kawasaki Australia) was crowned 200-250cc 13-U15 years Aussie Champion after wrapping up the week with a standout tally of 110 points. Dobson was followed on to the podium by Victorian Wayde Carter (KTM) and Queenslander Caleb Ward (KTM/JWR), each holding 97 points at the end of competition.

The 200-250cc 15 years class went down to the wire, with just four small points separating the top three at the end of competition. With the final moto taken into account, the crown went to Queensland rider Jesse Madden (Yamaha) with a final scorecard of 60 points. The bronze and silver medals both went to NSW, with Joel Wightman (NSW Yamaha Junior Racing) finishing up on 59 and Aaron Tanti (KTM/SS Racing) on 56.

NSW charger Alisha Barrett finished a strong Championship campaign with gold in the closely fought 85cc 12-U16 class, closing out the week with a second place moto finish and an impressive 104 points. Silver went to Queensland rider Cheyenne Taylor (KTM) who finished the event with 102 points in the bag, while bronze went to final moto winner Jozee Adamson (Yamaha) from NSW with a total of 101 points.

Adamson and Barrett also medalled in the 100/250cc Female 13-U16 class, finishing second and third behind new Australian Champion Emma Milesevic (Yamaha). Milesevic, from Victoria, recorded five straight wins to take an immaculate 125 points and her first AJMX title.

NSW collected the coveted Interstate Cup Challenge Trophy, taking out the honour ahead of Queensland and Victoria.

As the dust settled over the Coolum Pines Motocross Track this afternoon, the sixteen new Junior Aussie Champions and winning State Team collected their well-deserved trophies and medallions from Honda MX Nationals stars Ford Dale and Ben Townley.
