James Stewart and Eli Tomac win at Freestone

Practice:

250 class: Eli Tomac topped the timed qualifying sessions with a 2:01.858. Tomac was absolutely flying in both timed practices, topping Baggett’s 2:02.064. It was considerably rougher in the second round of practices, but Tomac was still able to set the fastest time.

Jason Anderson qualified in third place with a 2:02.518. The Redbull KTM teammates Ken Roczen and Marvin Musquin rounded out the top five. For the 250 guys, airing it into the sand section was a definite time saver, but I don’t think it will be done every lap in the motos.

450 class: Once again James Stewart set the fastest lap time in timed practice with a 1:59.126, topping Dungey, who had a 2:01.096. Not only did Stewart top Dungey, but he did so in the second timed qualifying where the track was considerably rougher. James said "the rougher the track gets, the better my motorcycle works.”

Josh Grant, Broc Tickle and Nico Izzi rounded out the top five. The track was definitely shaping up nicely by the end of the 450 practice, but line choice will be crucial for the motos.

Kyle Regal takes the Holeshot with Izzi Stewart Dungey and Grant running closely behind. Regal washes the front end three corners later and remounts in eleventh. By the end of lap 1, Stewart has passed everyone and is into the lead.

For two laps Dungey was working on Izzi, but was able to make his way around and went to work to catch Stewart. Stewart wasn’t able to pull out any time on Dungey, playing the yoyo game. Each time one would gain, the other would lose!

At the halfway mark, it was Stewart Dungey, Izzi, Weimer, Grant, Alessi. Later, Weimer makes his way around Izzi with 4 minutes +2 laps left in the moto.

Dungey stalks Stewart to the very end of the moto, but in the end, Stewart takes the first moto victory.

Ryan Dungey holeshots the moto, with Mike Alessi and James Stewart behind. In the second corner, James pulls a textbook cut underneath both riders and takes the lead. Dungey and Alessi go back and forth throughout the first lap, with Dungey coming out in second and Alessi in third.

Jake Weimer and Matt Lemoine had their work cut out for them, as they went down in the first corner. Weimer came all the way back to 6th place with one of the hardest charges of the day.

At the halfway point, it was still Stewart out front, with Dungey stalking him and Alessi in third. Stewart went on to win the moto by only 1.3 seconds over Dungey and Alessi.

250 Moto 1

The rookie Jessy Nelson takes the holeshot, with Phil Nicoletti, Marvin Musquin, Ken Roczen and Eli Tomac hot on his heels. Both Ivan Tedesco and Martin Davalos were down in the first corner and started in 39th and 40th position.

At lap three, Eli Tomac makes his way around Jessy Nelson for the lead and immediately starts to pull out a gap. Two laps later, Roczen got by Nelson, and Baggett is up to fifth position.

At the halfway mark of the moto, Tomac is out front with a 13+ second lead. Baggett has made his way into second, with Roczen in third. Nicoletti was running in the top ten throughout the moto, but his bike expired.

Tomac goes on to take the moto win with a 12 second lead. He was followed by Baggett and Roczen

Jessy Nelson takes yet another holeshot! He’s followed by Blake Wharton, Wil Hahn, Martin Davalos, Eli Tomac and Jason Anderson. Ivan Tedesco, Justin Barcia and a slough of others went down in the first corner.

Wharton makes quick work of Nelson and takes the lead. Only a handful of laps later, Tomac is into second going after Wharton. At minute 13 of the moto, Tomac makes his way by Wharton for the lead.

Jason Anderson, Ken Roczen and Blake Baggett are absolutely going for it. You could throw a blanket over these three.

Ten minutes plus two laps to go and the top ten order is Tomac, Wharton, Anderson, Roczen, Barcia, Musquin, Hahn, Nelson and Baker.

Baggett and Wharton go at it for the last 4 laps, but Baggett gets by him on the last lap for second. Tomac goes 1-1 on the day!
