FIM Speedway GP at Western Springs next March
Friday 14 October: 169 days to go to the sensational season-opening FIM New Zealand SGP at Auckland’s Western Springs Stadium on 31 March 2012 is the only new track which will play host to world speedway’s brightest stars as the competition returns to the Southern Hemisphere for the first time in 10 years.

All of this year’s FIM Speedway Grand Prix (SGP) venues stay on the calendar for 2012 as the competition expands to 12 rounds. Another key
change sees the sport’s flagship event, the FIM British Speedway Grand
Prix in Cardiff, shift from its traditional late June slot to August 25
to accommodate Olympic football in the Welsh capital.
Meanwhile, Torun’s stunning Marian Rose Motoarena in Poland has been
picked to host the final round, where the World Champion will be
officially crowned, on 06 October.
Once the SGP elite return from New Zealand, the action moves to more
familiar territory on 28 April 28, when Polish track Leszno stages the FIM
European Grand Prix. This will be followed by the Czech SGP on 12 May as
Prague’s Marketa Stadium hosts the event for the 16th time.
The historic Ullevi Stadium in Gothenburg is the venue for the
Swedish round on 26 May, before the action moves to Copenhagen’s PARKEN
Stadium for the FIM Dansk Metal Danish SGP on 09 June.
Gorzow’s Edward Jancarz Stadium, stage for last Saturday’s FIM Enea
Gorzow SGP of Poland, opens its door to the Grand Prix series
heavyweights again on 23 June.
The competition then takes its annual month-long break for the FIM
Speedway World Cup, before resuming in Croatia at Gorican’s Speedway
Stadium Milenium on 28 July.
The FIM Italian SGP takes place at Terenzano on 11 August, ahead of
the jewel in the World Championship crown – the British Grand Prix at
Cardiff’s magnificent Millennium Stadium.
Swedish venue Malilla is next and hosts the FIM Scandinavian SGP on 08 September, before legendary Danish track Vojens stages the FIM Nordic
Speedway Grand Prix on 22 September and the World Championship closes
with the FIM Torun SGP of Poland.
The dates have also been announced for next year’s FIM Speedway World
Cup and the tournament’s opening meeting sees legendary former SGP
venue Bydgoszcz return to the international calendar. The historic
Polonia Stadium, where Polish icon Tomasz Gollob rose to stardom, stages
Event One on 07 July.
British track King’s Lynn puts on Event Two for the third year
running on 09 July, before the action switches to Sweden, where Malilla’s
G&B Arena will host the SWC Race-Off on 12 July. The SWC Final
takes place there on 14 July.
BSI Speedway and the FIM have also confirmed the 15 permanent riders
for the 2012 FIM Speedway Grand Prix series. The four permanent wild
cards, who join the top eight from the 2011 championship and the three
riders who qualified from the FIM Grand Prix Challenge are confirmed as:
Fredrik Lindgren (Sweden); Nicki Pedersen (Denmark); Chris Harris
(Great Britain); Darcy Ward (Australia)
