Finals frenzy at 2011 Honda Australian Junior MX Championship
Saturday 08 October: To explain the multi 150 Classes. In Australia they run 125cc 2-strokes at 144cc, hence all the 150 classes.
Despite an ominous sky, the sun finally shone on the Honda Australian Junior Motocross Championship yesterday, leaving the Monarto Motocross track damp for the penultimate day of finals competition.
The
girls were the first down the start straight, pushing hard in the
fourth final of the 85cc and 150cc 12-U16 class. Emma Milesevic
from Victoria clinched line honours, along with the best lap time,
ahead of Victorian Tayla Jones (AJS Shepparton) and South Australian Amy
Bartsch.
NSW
rider Mackenzie Tricker (Yamaha Junior Racing) was triumphant in the
Female Lites, roaring home ahead of Milesevic and Tayla Jones
(NSW).
The
50cc class 7-U9’s tackled the damp track well, with Victorian youngster
Liam Andrews making it to the finish line in front in front
of Queensland’s Noah Ferguson (Twisted Sports, MX Race Prep) and
Western Australia’s Jason Roney.
NSW
rider Caleb Clifton was victorious in the 65cc 7-U9 fourth final event,
taking the race in front of Western Australia’s Regan Duffy
and NSW’s Korey McMahon (Sutto’s Motorex KTM Team).
Hunter
Lawrence (KTM Australia) continued to dominate his classes, securing
another two first place finishes. The Queenslander swept
the field in the fourth final of the 65cc 11-U13, leading Baylee Webb
(Western Australia) and Jimmy Griffin (NSW) across the line. The
youngster also roared home in the second final of the 85cc 9-U12 class
to finish with a twenty second lead over Victorian
rider Callum Norton (GMR Motorex KTM) and Western Australian rider
Caleb Grothues.
Norton
added a first to his 85cc second, snaring the 65cc 9-U11s second final
ahead of NSW riders Riley Dukes (SS Racing) and Blake
Cobbin (North Coast KTM).
Egan
Mastin (GMR Motorex KTM) from NSW snatched line honours for the second
day in a row in the 85cc 12-U14 class, clearing the second
final event ahead of Queensland’s Mitchell Evans (GMR Motorex KTM) and
NSW’s Jordan Hill (SS Racing).
The
fourth final of the 85cc 14-U16’s produced a tight race, with South
Australia’s Jett Anderson shadowed over the finishing line by
Mitchell Landy (Victoria) and Sean O’Connor (New Zealand).
It
was a red affair in the fourth final of the 150 9-U12’s, with the
leading trio all charging home on Honda’s. NSW rider Riley Dukes
(SS Racing) from NSW notched up the fastest time, followed by Jake
McGlashan (NSW) and Mitch Johnstone (Queensland).
The
leading trio in the 150cc 12-U14 class punched home in the same order
as yesterday, with Wayde Carter (Honda Junior Development
Team) from Victoria claiming the fourth final with the best lap time
result and an eleven second lead over Zak Small (Queensland) and Connor
Tierney (Western Australia).
Western
Australia’s Scott Kramer snapped up victory in the fourth final of the
150cc 14-U16’s, followed by NSW duo Corey Hamilton (Factory
Spec) and Billy Wilson (KTM Newcastle).
The
second final of the 100-150cc 15 years saw close competition on the
track, with NSW rider Dylan Wills (SS Racing) securing the best
lap time and line honours ahead of New Zealand riders Hamish Harwood
and Chase Smith.
Suzuki-mounted
Jordan Smith from the United States conquered the 100-150cc 13-U15’s
for the second day in a row, with Queensland’s Joel
Dinsdale (Yamaha Junior Racing) and Western Australia’s Jayden Rykers
switching yesterday’s top trio finishing order to come in second and
third respectively.
The
250cc 13-U15 class second final saw three now familiar faces put the
fastest times on the clock, with Joel Dinsdale making the post
in front of Wayde Carter and Jordan Smith.
The
last event of the day saw the 15 years 250cc class tear up the track in
an action packed second final event. NSW rider Hayden Mellross
(Honda Junior Development Team) took victory in an exceptionally tight
battle, followed home by New Zealand’s Hamish Harwood and Dion Picard.
Comment: I have read on Facebook that Haki Waller is out with a crash injury.
The
final day of competition plays out tomorrow at the Monarto Motocross
Track, with sixteen thrilling events set to decide a host of
new young Aussie Champions.
