Josh Coppins entered the South Australian round as the points' leader and looked on song in the morning qualifying. The opening two motos saw Coppins as fast as anyone on the track and charge his way through to 2-4 results and look to the afternoon session for a strong finish to the round.

Race 3 and he was part of a three way battle at the front of the field, snatching second place in the final few turns. Coppins entered the last race well placed for another good round and confident he could bring home another race win.

That went out the window just 200metres from the starting gates when Coppins tangled with riders in the first turn and went down heavily. The fall left him sore and sort, his bike battered and he was unable to finish the event. His 2-4-2-DNF saw the Kiwi land in sixth spot for the round and drop to second place in the championship.

"I felt like I was going pretty good and all I need to get a race win was a decent start. In the last race, I focused on the start, but came together with a few riders entering the first turn and before I knew it I was on the ground.”

"I took a pretty hard hit to the head, but everything else feels ok. I'm sure I will be right to go for the Toowoomba round and we can get back after winning this championship,” Coppins explains.

Marmont struggled to find his mojo early in the day and battled for sixth place finishes in both morning motos. Marmont, the current and three-time MX Nationals champion, dug deep in the afternoon motos and returned with 5-3 scores to boost his day and finish fourth for the round and take some confidence from the final leg.

"I really couldn't get going this morning and struggled with arm pump in the later stages of both races,” Marmont said after the event. "But after lunch I loosened up and was able to put in much better laps and the final race I caught the leaders with one lap to go.”

"The plan is to ensure I don't waste any motos from here on and I want to hit Toowoomba the way I left here in the final race,” Marmont said.

The mixed day bought mixed emotions from team manager, Craig Dack.

"Josh was in contention all day and if he could have just nailed a start or two he would have been right at the front as his lap times were great. Jay took a while to warm up but finished the day strongly. But out of all that, we are still right in this championship and there is plenty of time to make things happen,” Dack says positively.
