from ... Epic EventsT – raction Yes Traction with a capital ‘T’ was the highlight of the opening Suzuki Trail Blazer held last Sunday 10 April near Taupo. Sometimes the water content in the soil is just at that perfect level with firm tracks, no dust and no mud and that sure was the case on Sunday. Out in the bush you could just hear everyone cranking each and every berm with very little chance of losing the front end or hanging out the rear under power. Just a case of glide into the corner, pitch the bike over, lean and get on the gas…
Check out some of the pics of the action on the trail. I was lucky enough to get out and ride the Family and Middle trails. I am really glad we now have a dedicated family trail at most events. To see the young kids and Parents enjoying 10km of firm, smooth track without getting fly bys from rocket ships is a real pleasure. Hey that’s where we all started!
It all cranks up another notch in just 3 weeks time when the first 2 day Trail Blazer of the year takes place 7-8 May. This should be another cracker event with all the benefits of 2 days of riding on over 100km of trail at 2 totally separate venues. It is a bit tough on the Epic event staff shifting the set up on Saturday night, but to have another 60km of groomed trail lined up means it makes the effort worth while. The Saturday takes place at the Te Toke Road venue (used last weekend) and the Sunday is held on the North side of SH5. The Te Toke Road tracks have all been groomed this week even though they were still in excellent condition after one days riding. Plus I can report that the Sunday venue trails have all been bulldozed 2 weeks ago to knock out some foliage and bumps. Sunday trails will include the old favourites; Long 40km, Middle 12km and Family 8km, plus all the kid’s tracks.
Leatt Four hour Saturday 18 June 2011 Keen an eye out for the Leatt Four hour entries opening next week. With Juniors included this year the event will be bigger, younger and better.
