Maxxis ACU British Motocross Champs - Round 2

In a repeat of the top step of the podium at the opening round, both Arnaud Tonus (Bike It Cosworth Wild Wolf Yamaha) and Shaun Simpson (LS Honda) stood on the top step of the podium at the second round of the series which took place at Canada Heights in Kent today. Both riders scored two wins and a second position to extend their lead in the series and Steve Dixon's team locked out the results with wins in both qualifying sessions and the three MX2 races !

Bike It Cosworth Wild Wolf Yamaha's Swiss rider, Tonus, opened the score with wins in the first two motos but Osborne hit back in the third to climb into second place in the series after his unfortunate DNF at round one. Belgian Wildcard, Joel Roelants (Nestaan JM Racing KTM) finished third overall with 5-4-3 positions.

In the MX1 catagory, Simpson was strong having to fight through from outside the top five in most starts, but his 1-2-1 finishes was enough to put him 16 points ahead of his nearest rival, Kristian Whatley who had a strong day right from the first qualifying session and posted 5-3-3 results to squeeze out Stephen Sword (Buildbase CCM) whose day could have been better except for a mistake in the second moto when leading. Jason Dougan (Bike It Cosworth Wild Wolf Yamaha) could not back up his second moto win to get onto the podium with a pair of sixth places. However, although Simpson takes the red plate as Series Leader back to his Belgian base, effectively Dougan leads the championship as Simpson will now concentrate on the GP's and not return until the final round in October.

The event also featured the opening round of the MXY2 (Youth) series and Jake Shipton (Bournemouth Pro Circuit Kawasaki) backed up his opening race win with a third in moto two to just edge out the two second places of Ryan Houghton on the HM Plant Red Bull KTM by a single point.

The next round of the Championship will take place at Lyng in Norfolk on 17 April.

Kiwis at Canada Heights:

Kieran Scheele does not appear in the MX1 results but John Phillips was 27th.  No news on Kayne Lamont as yet.

Update: Just in from Emma Davis at 11am: "Tough day at the office today for Team DBG. Johnny Phillips was solid scoring his first points in the British Championships but unfortunately Kieran Scheele suffered a broken collarbone. The track was rough today!"

Update:  Good news in from Johnny at 5pm on Bjarne: "BJ's knee has come right pretty quick, he should be sweet for this weekend."

Update:  Kayne Lamont.  Here I am thinking he went onto the UK after Broadford.  I had an email from his Mother Diane at 6.00pm:  "Kayne is still in NZ, he should be in the UK in a couple of weeks. Just got the sponsor letter from UK so can now get on and apply for his UK Visa."

I did not even notice him in the New Plymouth results and Diane later said: "Kayne did do Round 4 at New Plymouth on his practice bike with SX suspension - he needed to be riding !  His race bike was sold a week ago and that is why he didn't race at Rotorua as he never had a bike.  Dan McCoy from Australia officially took over Kayne's ride in the MX2 class when we advised Suzuki Kayne was going to the UK.  Kayne wasn't supposed to be here for the Senior Nationals but unfortunately due to the problems getting his Visa he is still here !"
