The new rollers section we had featured worked a treat and the bigger boys and several of the Women had it absolutely nailed. The new, big left hander to re-join the main track will not be used as they did not anticipate the sheer speed riders would be travelling at. If anybody over-jumped it they would be in trouble with the descending section of the track so they have decided to leave it out. A good example was Isaiah McGoldrick, Dion Picard and Haki Waller - there sheer speed through that new section was quite remarkable, so the top riders on Sunday will be slightly quicker.

Out the back in the open terrain section the Minis had 106 riders in 6 differing classes.

Smallest 85 Class was dominated by Josiah Natzke.  He won all 3 races by 12, 23 and 18 seconds.

There was lots of interest in the fact that Courtney Duncan was up from the bottom of the South Island and riding two classes. In the 14-16yrs 85s practice she was 3.7 seconds quicker and won her three races by 37, 22 and 30 seconds.

Women's and in Practice Courtney Duncan had the smallest of margins over Nikki Scott of 0.198 seconds. Courtney is 14yrs (soon 15) and on an 85cc. Nikki is 21 yrs and on a 250F. Courtney won by 32, 32 and 10 seconds.

She had collisions and crashes but she was my 'Rider of the Day' - a remarkably talented young lady. She was quick everywhere and whilst I have avoided naming brands (cos it takes too much time !!) through the rollers/whoops her YZ85 suspension worked a treat. I caught up with Norman Cobb from Suspension Tech who does her suspension. Norm goes back a fair while and says Courtney's suspension is super hard - a Suspension Tech kit that he has used for 20 years and still exports to Australia and beyond.

CD and her Step-dad, Carey Turner left straight away as the have a ferry at 2:15am - the weather on 6pm News said 160kph winds are forecast.

It's not all about Courtney Duncan and the top 6 put on some excellent racing.
