But one mistake from the leader was all it took for Jeremy Martin to take the checkered flag once again.
Jessy Nelson got off to a quick start, grabbing the MotoSport.com
Holeshot. Nelson has quietly been having a great season but has been
overshadowed by the Star Yamaha duo. Entering the day 4th in 250MX
points and coming off a career-best fifth-overall finish a week ago,
Nelson had accomplished all this without getting a good start in any of
the motos to date. The first moto today provided a glimpse of what could
happen when he does grab a holeshot.
With Cooper Webb and Jeremy Martin locked in a battle for third and
Justin Bogle ahead of them in second, Nelson had the opportunity early
in the race to build a lead, stretching it out to nine seconds at one
point. He admittedly was riding a bit tight, likely due to nerves from
leading the race, and ended up making a mistake in the ruts, falling off
the bike and struggling to get going again. Although he was still ahead
of Martin, his lead had dwindled down enough that Martin was soon able
to run him down and make the pass for the lead.
