Antonio Cairoli - MXGP Interview




All you need to know about Antonio Cairoli.
  1. Italian legend Antonio Cairoli was born in Patti, Sicily.
  2. He began his motocross Grand Prix career in 2002 riding a Yamaha and was very quickly noticed with a stunning performance at the Grand Prix of Valkenswaard where he battled soon to be MX2 Champion Ben Townley and South African hero Tyla Rattray.
  3. He was the 2005 FIM world champion in the MX2-GP class beating Australian Andrew McFarlane in a close battle.
  4. In 2007 he again won the MX2-GP world championship.
  5. Cairoli claimed the 2009 MX1-GP FIM Motocross World Championship.
  6. After moving to Red Bull KTM Factory Racing, successfully defended his title in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013. The first rider since the great Stefan Everts to win five titles in a row.
  7. Everts would win 6 titles in a row from 2001 until 2006, so in 2014 Cairoli can equal that tally of winning consecutive titles?
  8. He lives with his Dutch girlfriend Jill Cox between Rome, Italy and Lommel, Belgium, where he is training.
  9. It was 10 years ago that he won his first ever Grand Prix, at the Namur circuit in Belgium.
  10. Now 10 years later he has 7 World titles, 63 GP wins and 129 GP moto wins. Impressive stuff !
