Tony Rees notched up another win at Paeroa
battle of the streets yesterday. Riding the Honda Riders Insurance
CBR1000 , the Whakatane motorcycle dealer started from pole position in
the Formula Paeroa Class and had a close race with Auckland's Ray Clee and New Plymouth's Hayden Fitzgerald both riding Suzukis.
Taking the win from Fitzgerald followed by Clee. "That was a close
race " said Rees afterwards "Ray and Hayden were on my tail the whole
time, on lap five we came up on a backmarker and I managed to get
through cleanly and get a small gap but I kept my head down as I knew
they would pounce if I slackened off. It's great to get overall win
number eight at Paeroa twenty two years after my first."
The win marks Tony's eighth feature
race win, his ninth overall at Paeroa (he has won one 600 class overall
as well) and his fifth battle of the streets title. Racing has
been at Paeroa since1992.
Tony now prepares for the eight remaining races in the NZSBK superbike
championship at Taupo on March 22-23 and Manfeild over three days March
28-30.
