Final round of the Australian Supercross Championship this weekend
Tuesday 12 November: A Queenland rider is poised to claim his maiden national Supercross title at Toowoomba.
With just one round remaining in the 2013
Milwaukee presents the Terex Australian Supercross Championship GTYR Yamaha
rider Jay Wilson is eyeing his first professional Australian Supercross
title.
Holding an assailable 22 point lead in the Under
19’s championship, the Gold Coast teenager needs only to finish the
final round at Toowoomba Showgrounds this Saturday to secure the title.
Wilson, who finished runner-up in the MX Nationals MXD championship
and won the Sunshine State MX Pro Lites Championship has dominated the 2013
Australian Supercross championship, winning all four rounds to date.
The 18 year old from Terranora said despite a slow start to his
2013 campaign hard work and set goals saw him flourish throughout the
second half of the year.
Jay Wilson: "2013 started slowly
for me. I went to NZ at the start of the season
to kick start my year but I really struggled to get decent results and I
wasn’t riding at the level I expect of myself. I
continued to work hard and my team rallied behind me and by round five of
the MX Nationals, things started to turn around. I finished the motocross
season strongly, winning three of the last five rounds and ended up second
overall so it was good fight back from a poor start.
Supercross has gone really well and I have won the four events
held so far. I put in plenty of work in the lead up to the championship so
its good to see it all being rewarded. I guess the reason for the success this year was I really tried to
simplify things. I tend to over think and over analyse things so I made a
conscious effort to keep everything simple and ride and train with a simple
goal and its certainly worked and I have enjoyed this year a lot.
My expectations are always high as I put in a lot of time riding
and training. I’m dedicated to being a professional racer and that
means making the most of my talent and ensuring I have no regrets at the
end of each season.
I’m currently in talks with Yamaha for 2014
and hope to stay with them as they are a great company with awesome bikes
and the best race teams.”
