Suzuki 2 Day Trail Blazer 7-8 May report

Mothers Day, Duck Shooting Opening, copious rain still didn’t deter around 300 riders on Saturday and 500 on Sunday from enjoying the first 2 day trail blazer. Saturday was wet and more suitable for ducks, but everyone that turned up had the right attitude of ‘its gonna be a good day, even if wet’.

I was pretty happy to see Sunday dawn fine and clear with lots more riders in yet another base paddock. The kids sure enjoyed the new grass track we made.

Just a note on the family trail which I know causes a bit of conflict with fast riders riding on it. We will keep the Family trail, but it will now be renamed back to the old name of Novice trail. This is just to create a clear message that it is for Novices only. We will also have staff doing spot checks anywhere on the Novice trail. If we see anyone fast, you will be taken off that track and or sent packing. The Novice tracks at Trail Blazer are around 5-8km long.

Suzuki Berm Buster 11-12 June

Next up is the adventurous trail ride we call Suzuki Berm Buster. Taking place 25 minutes from Taupo on the Napier/Taupo Road this event normally attracts around 400 riders per day. The trails are more open than the Trail Blazer rides plus there are some great views of Lake Taupo. The track crews are just finishing off the trails today. Tracks include Long 42km, Middle 38km, Short 17km, Novice 3km, plus 2 kid’s tracks. Berm Buster provides a great opportunity to train for the Leatt Four hour coming up soon. If you haven’t tried a Berm Buster yet then book in 11-12 June. The Taupo De Bretts Holiday Park and thermal pools is only 20 minutes from the tracks so is a great option to stay a few nights and enjoy the hot pools.

November Berm Buster cancelled

We have decided to cancel the Berm Buster event we had planed for November. This is mainly to provide a shorter sharper trail ride season. So there will now only be 2 opportunities to ride this unique event – 11–12 June and 13-14 August.

Leatt 4 hour and Motomuck Junior 90 18 June

Just one week after Suzuki Berm Buster comes our flagship race event called the Leatt 4 hour and Motomuck Junior 90. The big news here is a change of venue from 2010. The new venue is the same forest as we hold Suzuki Trail Blazer South off Te Toke Road. SH5. The friendly farmers have let me use a flat paddock for the pit/parking area and a nearby rolling paddock for a flowing MX track. The 24km track will be divided into 2 loops A and B so riders will enter the pits twice per lap (as per 2010). The actual tracks will be based around the very popular Family and Medium trails and will include View Hill. The tracks will definitely be more open than the 2010 event, but will still include heaps of flowing berms plus some fun hills. Remember you don’t have to be fast or even a good rider to enter the 4 hour. You just need a well prepared bike and some basic fitness. I am really looking forward to this new venue which will combine all the good features of the 2009 and 2010 Leatt Four Hour events.

Riders taking on the Motomuck Junior 90 will just ride Loop A (around 12km) with the addition of the MX grass track.

Entries are rolling in and with just 3 weeks to go I would say get that entry in quick as we will cap entries at 400 riders. Last year we had 375 riders.

Epic Events is for Sale

Yes you may have heard rumours that Epic Events is for sale and that is true. I (Nick Reader) am starting a new job as the Taupo District Events Manager.

My wife Debbie Reader will be managing the company and all events from Monday 30 May onwards. Contact Debbie Reader 021 632721 and debbie@epicevents.co.nz

We have had heaps of fun and a fantastic lifestyle running Epic Events over the last 11 years and we look forward to passing the business over to an energised person who wants to carry on running some of NZ’s best trail rides and most popular Endurance race. Anyone genuinely interested in buying the business should contact Debbie Reader for more information.

I will still be at a lot of the events including running the Leatt Four Hour and Suzuki Desert Storm. Please be assured that all 2011 Epic Events will be run to the same very high standard as in the past and the staff will do their very best to provide quality tracks and great riding experiences for all the customers.
