Wednesday 04 May: Epic Events Trail News #9. Wind, trees and cool new trail.
Heck what is it with wind at the moment. Last week crazy winds hit
the Taupo region knocking trees down left, right and centre… And just
tonight Auckland gets a Tornado.
The strong winds hammered some areas of the forest we use for the
Trail Blazer South (this Saturday), but left the North side (we use this
Sunday) untouched. It was quite shocking to see the damage with mature
trees snapped off half way up the trunk like matchsticks.
But never fear, we cranked up the bulldozer and chainsaw (again) and I reckon we have actually improved the trails. The Family trail moved North a bit, the Middle moved over to some of Family and the Long picked up a bit of Middle plus some really cool new stuff
involving some flowing old roads, a long hill climb and a super long
descent off View Hill. Included in all of this is a rehash of 2 Expert
trails just to keep you guessing. The one trail we could not revive for
Saturday was the 3km Novice trail – sorry. However we do have a very
cool 1km kids forest track at the base and the Family trail has been
shortened to 6km which makes it a great option for Novices.
Make sure you are part of the action at our first 2 day ride of winter 2011.

Leatt Crank Taupo 21 May.
And for those of you who do a bit of mountain biking, you should have
a go at Leatt Crank Taupo. This fun event involves either a 20 or 30km
Cross Country ride plus an adrenaline pumping (but achievable
downhill). Shuttle buses take riders up to the top for almost unlimited
runs and all you have to do is glide to the bottom…
