Interim report from Round 3 Maxxis British MX Champs.
Monday 18 April: Info extremely slow to come through as the internet access at the Cadders Hill venue in Lyng (Norfolk) being non existent we have only been able to access limited race reports.
Relentless Suzuki by TAS rider
Mel Pocock managed to break the domination of the Bike It Team by splitting current MX2 championship leader
Arnaud Tonus and
Zack Osborne in the Superpole shootout at Lyng this morning.
Whilst Osborne dominated the Q1 qualifying session by over one second from his Swiss team mate, he was unable to repeat the feat in Q2, which left Tonus to take pole position by just over half a second from Pocock.
Bryan MacKenzie (Maxxis Henderson LPE Kawasaki) backed up his Q1 4th with the same in Q2 with
Elliot Banks-Browne (DB Racing Honda) and
Ray Rowson (Samsung Yamaha) filling the top six.
Drama in the MX1 class as
Jason Dougan on the bigger version of the Bike It Cosworth Wild Wolf Yamaha took the top spot in Q1, but was demoted to 12th position in Q2 with machine failure within yards of the finish of the super pole lap. That left the door open for Buildbase CCM's
Stephen Sword to put in a hot Q2 lap which put him less than one tenth of a second ahead of one of his main championship rivals,
Brad Anderson (PAR Honda) with
Martin Barr (Proppa.Com KTM) just holding off the second Buildbase CCM of
Tom Church by a quarter of a second on the brilliantly prepared sandy circuit.
Kristian Whatley (Samsung Yamaha) improved on his Q1 position for fifth, whilst
Gert Krestinov (Maxxis Henderson LPE Kawasaki) completed the top six.
Wildcard MX1 rider,
Ben Townley looked strong on the CLS Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki and chose the final position to start the superpole despite a possible higher finish and put in a spectacular lap for seventh position, but over three and a half second ahead of a determined looking Sword.
The MXY2 class timed qualifying session was stopped with approx 5 mins to run because of an incident on the circuit involving
Bradley Pocock, which first reports indicate is in a similar position to where he broke his leg two years ago.
