Dean Ferris takes emotional first career MX2 GP victory
Ferris knew that good starts would be key on the rutty hard pack circuit and he did just that in Moto 1 when he jumped well as the gate fell and exited the first turn in second behind fellow team-mate Maxim Desprey. Ferris hounded the Frenchman for over half the moto and then finally made his move as Desprey started to tire. Controlling his lead Ferris kept his cool and took the checkered flag over Jordi Tixier. Determined to repeat his first moto success Ferris grabbed another great start and this time he quickly moved into the lead as he passed Dutchman, Glenn Coldenhoff. He put the hammer down and pulled out to a 7 second lead controlling his advantage until 3 laps to go. With rain starting to fall, Ferris backed off the pace a little which allowed Coldenhoff to close the gap but he didn’t put a foot wrong and took the double victory. "This has been the prefect weekend for me” commented an elated Ferris. "I knew that the starts would be important on this track. I’m really proud that I have been able to put Yamaha on the top step of the podium and make it into the history books. This is my fourth podium of the season and now that the monkey is off my back there is no reason why I can’t repeat this in Matterly and Lierop” Ferris heads to Matterly Basin next weekend, for the penultimate round of the FIM Motocross championship.
