Courtney Duncan blitzes the field in first day of the finals at the Aust. Junior MX Champs.

29 Sep: The Official Opening Ceremony took place today at the Lake Macquarie Motor Bike Club in NSW as the Finals commenced and finishes on Saturday.

The first round of finals took place on Tuesday at the 2010 Honda Australian Junior Motocross Championship at the Lake Macquarie Motor Bike Club. The classes taking to the track on Tuesday did not need to qualify, and began what will be five massive days of racing.

Today (Wednesday) in the first of nine finals Female 85cc/150cc 12-u16 yrs Kiwi Courtney Duncan, from Palmerston in Otago, put up a best lap time of 1:59.764 which 9 seconds faster than any of the other young ladies. The time differential to 2nd place was a whopping 49.484 seconds.

Duncan, who has blitzed the Women's field, managed a staggering 3rd place in the 12 to Under 14 years Class up against the guys, despite crashing early in the race and starting from the rear of the field.

It's a massive event with a total of 456 riders and 672 bikes - differing classes.

Results:

65cc 9-u11 yrs after two rounds Oliver Eyre is in 28th position.

85cc 2 stroke 9-u12 yrs - Benjamin Broad Qualified 17th out of 89 riders.

100-150 2 stroke 13-u15yrs after 2 rounds Hamish Harwood is in 8th, Dion Picard in 23rd, James Anderson 32st, Brandon Tipene 38th.

150 4 stroke 12-u14 yrs - in Heat 1 Joel Meikle was 9th, Josh Bartosh 15th.

200-250 4 stroke 13-u15 yrs - Qualifying: Dion Picard 3rd, Hamish Harwood 9th and Brandon Tipene 24th. Aussie Jesse Dobson who has raced in NZ crashed out and was unable to continue to qualify amongst the 57 starters.

Point of interest in the Qualifying for the 200-250 4 stroke 15 yrs last years World Champion Dylan Long Qualified 16th out of 75 entries.

Finals continue on Thursday with 16 more races set to take place as some riders prepare for their second to last day of racing.
