NZ Veteran's & Women's Motocross Champs - Day 2 and Results
27 Sep: The mud had been scrapped off the top section of the track and as the day progressed the better the open terrain track got.
Here is the reason why the Pukekohe Club had to move the Champs. The track was going to be on the lower slopes and the pit area on the flats. The Waikato River is very high at the moment and reached the bottom of the elevated back straight of the Club's Mercer Sand Track.
After the mud of Saturday, the track on Sunday was a pleasure to ride. Ruts and berms developed and the lap times dropped. Club President, Scott Wilkins, was running in the 30-34 Unders. His MR Motorcycles ute was parked behind security gates at his apartment but some low lifes had attempted to steal it in the night. They damaged the ignition barrel which made it un-driveable and stole his brand new RM125 off the back. Only done one hour and recognisable with it's gold rims and steering head damper. He decided not to ride Sunday.
Warm day and actually felt like Spring. More spectators turned out and several riders didn't come back. For a last minute track switch it worked very well.
Results are courtesy of Nicole Bol from MX Timing who now has a webste: www.mxt.co.nz Nicole is Secretary of Taupo MCC and said that with most of their Committee up in the USA at MXoN and with the Vets/Women on they are going to run Taupo Club Day this Saturday to work in with Tokoroa on Sunday - nice work.

Forgive me for the bold type but I can't turn it off even in the programme source - a bug. Mike Cotter and Craig Brown 'fought tooth and nail' and turned on an exhibition of speed and skill. The shear speed was great to watch. Well done guys.

Darren Capill would take the holeshot and lead for several laps before DK would take him. Hard work doing ten races and they were certainly on the gas. Still hard to get used to seeing Capes on a red bike.

Mitch Rowe rode the best I have seen him ride (that damned bold back again) and same was said by Commentator Neil Ritchie. His lap times were up there with the younger Classes. Well done Mitch.

Those front three were never far apart with Elwin and Jurd constantly fighting it out. Special mention of 8 year old Oceanna Hardwidge who was on her KTM65. She took the only jump on the track as big as as any of the girls. Every corner was a challenge for her to keep those little wheels out of the ruts.

Great racing from the front three and the #1 plate deservedly stays with Kimberley Murphy. Courtney Lindsay has certainly stepped up and gave Murphy 'a run for her money'.

This Class produced some of the most exciting racing of the weekend. In the extreme conditions of Saturday the Women ran a shortened track but asked on Sunday to run the full track. Letitia Alabaster showed maturity all weekend and rode very well. The arrival of Nikki Scott from Europe gave her competition but it was her weekend. Race 5 was the best race of this class after Scott gave away the lead when she put the bike down. There was a battle for the lead and Alex Dillon rode her best race of the weekend. Alabaster had the results sorted in her head and stayed out of the as a DNF would have cost her the title.
