Ben Townley to compete at Inaugural Monster Energy Cup
Thursday 29 September: Feld Motor Sports® announced today that Ben Townley will race at the inaugural Monster Energy Cup at Las Vegas’ Sam Boyd Stadium on 15 October. US$1 million is up for grabs.
Prior
to joining the Eastern Regional Supercross Lites class in 2007, Townley
captured 12 national titles in New Zealand and 13 World Motocross
Championship Grand Prix wins. Townley capped off his Lites class rookie
season with three wins and two additional podium finishes and was
crowned the class’ champion.
Following setbacks with injuries in the
pursuing seasons, Townley is back in action ready to take a shot at the
Monster Million.
Ben Townley: "I'm
really excited to race at a higher level in the states again. Ironically, the last time I raced supercross was at Sam Boyd
Stadium in 2007, so it's been a while. The atmosphere racing in a
stadium is exciting and I’m looking forward to doing it again."
The hybrid track, which will blend elements from both supercross and motocross, has many riders eager to see the final product.
"I’m
excited to see what Ricky [Carmichael] and Jeremy [McGrath] have in
store for us,” added Townley. "The hybrid factor and general concept of
this race is really interesting to me. I feel if there is a good balance
between motocross and supercross it will make for some really
interesting racing.”
The
unique hybrid track will consist of supercross/motocross terrain and
will have a tremendous motocross-style influence, making it unlike any
other stadium race in the world. This track will be the perfect blend of
supercross and motocross combined and created into the ultimate
battleground. The Monster Energy Cup posts a $250,000 purse, awarding
the winner a $100,000 cheque, and for the first time ever, US$1 Million
will be paid to a rider that wins all three main events.
