from ... Blake Young
Saturday 25 June: Rockstar Makita Yoshimura Suzuki's Blake Young talks about the AMA Pro American Superbike season so far and being just two points away from the Championship lead on his GSX-R1000.
We just finished up the fifth round of the 2011 AMA Pro American
Superbike
Championship at Barber Motorsports Park this past weekend. It
went pretty good for me with a podium on Saturday and a win on Sunday. I
also picked up some points on Championship leader Josh Hayes so now I'm
just two back and we're halfway through the series.
It's been a
good year for my Rockstar Makita Suzuki team and me so far. Also, it's
been kind of a weird year with such a big gap between Daytona and the
next race in Sonoma. But since then we've had kind of a regular schedule
going on and I feel like I'm getting into a pretty good rhythm.
Sweeping
both races at Daytona was a great way to start the season. Then after
all that time off, I struggled a bit at Infineon. It's a tough track for
me and I was maybe just a little anxious after two months off. The team
worked real hard to get me as comfortable as possible on my Suzuki
GSX-R1000 and it has paid off. The next race at Miller was awesome: I
had a great battle with Hayes and my team mate Tommy Hayden and ended up
pulling off the win. My Suzuki was a rocket ship and that was one of
the most exciting races I've ever been in.
There's been a lot of
awesome racing so far this year and the competition is very close.
There have been some great battles, which make it all the more fun and
exciting. I've been able to pull off two more wins and two podiums since
Miller and now we're close to the top in points, so I'm really looking
forward to the rest of the season. My GSX-R is working great and my
Rockstar Makita Suzuki team and the guys from Yoshimura have been doing a
great job and we all want to pull off this Championship this year.
Mid-Ohio is our next round in a couple weeks and that's usually a pretty
good track for us, so I'm really looking forward to it!
See you at the races!
